Help Center Clinic Manager Lab results

Lab results

What it is

Lab reports from Quest, via your clinic's Quanum account, arrive in the portal by themselves. Every report lands on a review list first. Nothing is attached to a patient by itself: someone on your team opens the report, checks it, and links it to the right patient. After that it is on the patient's Labs card, ready to open and print.

Lab results are in Clinic Manager Plus and Pro, and a $49 a month add-on on Clinic Manager Base.

Who can see it

Everyone whose role has See, print and link lab results (Admin → Owner → Roles). It is on for every role to start, because front-desk staff print labs too. The owner can untick it for any role.

The Lab results page (top menu → Labs)

  • To review: reports nobody has linked yet. This is the working list.
  • Archived: reports you archived (wrong clinic, duplicate, not needed). Nothing is ever deleted; Back to review returns one.
  • A report you link leaves this page and lives on the patient's profile (Labs card), where it opens, prints and can be unlinked.
  • Columns: Resulted (date) · Name on report (and date of birth, as printed) · Tests · AI summary

(how many results the report flags as out of range, or "All in range") · Status at the lab · From (the connection). Every column sorts. Find searches names and test names.

  • Tick boxes: Archive (To review), Back to review (Archived), for many at once.
  • Click anywhere on a row to open the report.

The report panel

  • Open / print opens the lab's own PDF in a new browser tab, where you print it. Download saves a copy.

The link works for two minutes; every open is recorded in the audit log.

  • AI summary: check against the report. Quill, Prescripta's AI, reads the PDF inside Prescripta's own secure

cloud account; the report never leaves it. It shows, in this order:

  1. Out of range: each result the report itself flags (H, L, abnormal) with its value, units and range.
  2. A short sentence on the results that are within range.
  3. Every result, under "Every result" (click to open).

The summary copies what the report prints; it never decides a result is abnormal on its own and gives no advice. If it could not read a report, the panel says so and offers Read again.

  • Link to a patient: the portal suggests patients whose first and last name match the name printed on the report

(and says whether the date of birth matches too; "date of birth differs" is a warning). Click Link next to the right one, or search for any patient. A linked report shows on that patient's Labs card, whichever of their memberships you were on.

  • Archive moves it to Archived. Unlink (on the patient's Labs card) sends a linked report back to To review.
  • History: when it arrived, status changes at the lab, when the PDF and the AI summary came, who linked it.

On the patient page

The Labs card lists the reports linked to the patient, newest first, with the out-of-range count and status. Click one to open it, print it, or unlink it.

On the dashboard

Lab results to review (Care row) counts the reports waiting on To review. It hides at zero.

How reports arrive (Quest via Quanum)

  • Once a day at the hour support set with you (and on Run now, or every few hours if you asked for a recheck), the

portal signs in to Quanum as your clinic's dedicated Quanum user, opens Results for the last 30 days, downloads every result it has not stored yet, and signs out.

  • A result with Quest's Enhanced report arrives as Quest's own PDF (green PDF chip) with an AI summary.
  • A result with only the HL7 data file is read by the portal itself, exact values, units, ranges and Quest's own

flags, and rendered as a plain printable page that says so at the top (HL7 chip). The original file is kept.

  • Partial results are brought in only if Partial results too is on; a partial row is updated when the final arrives.
  • The Quest box in Settings → Lab connections shows the last run (found / new / already here) and turns red with the

reason when something needs a person (a new password, a changed page).

Questions people ask

Q: Why doesn't the portal link the report to the patient by itself?

A: Two people can share a name, and reports print names differently ("DOE, JANE Q"). A person checks every report once, so a result never lands on the wrong chart.

Q: The AI summary and the report disagree. Which is right?

A: The report. The summary is a reading aid; always check it against the PDF before acting on it.

Q: Can we order labs from the portal?

A: Not yet. Order the way you do today; the results come here.

Q: Which labs come in?

A: Quest, via your clinic's Quanum account. More lab connections are coming; they are named only once connected.

Q: The Quest connection turned red: "Quanum is asking for a new password".

A: Quest makes Quanum users change their password now and then. Sign in to Quanum once by hand with that user, set the new password there, then enter it in Admin → Settings → Lab connections → Quest (Quanum) → Save sign-in (support does this with you). Runs resume at the next scheduled time or on Run now.
